The Brooklyn Hose Company was organized April 12,1897,in a shoemakers shop in Sixth Ward by two shoemakers, George Temple and John Morrison.  Meetings were held in Mr. Temple's shop, and with only five members enrolled they made a joint note for $20 and bought a plot of ground on West Hale Street and later erected a small house at a cost of $80.00.  This was built by Grant Ort.
At the time the charter was granted the membership had increased from five to forty-one.
The first meeting was held in the new building October 6,1897,and the first motion passed was to hold square dances to raise funds for the new building.  October12,1897, the first election of officers took place and the following served the first year of this organization: President John W.Morrison; Vice President T.W. Stahl; Treasurer A.A. Shatzer; Secretary A.A. Brannen.
A hand-drawn cart was purchased by the Borough and was Brooklyn's first firefighting apparatus.  James R. Wike was the first fire chief.
The company membership grew and a plot of ground was purchased at 22 East Hale Street and a larger building erected theron.  The first meeting was held on December 22,1908.
A Drum Corps was organized and made its first appearance in a Field day parade Saturday, October 7,1911.

The Bugle, Fife and Drum Corps was organized under the leadership of John Jones, with new uniforms being purchased May18,1926.
Rapidly the membership outgrew the present building. The Brannon property on South Main Street was purchased for $10,000 October 18,1927.  The architects of Hodge and Hill of Philadelphia drew up the plans and the contract was awarded to Yenter Brothers of Tyrone at a cost of $39,670.  Work started August 1931 and was completed February 1932.  Dedication services were held February22,1932 and this date was set aside for the company;s annual banquet.
The new building was constructed of brick and stone.  The first floor consisted of engine room, drying tower and kitchen.  Second floor consisted of a lounge room.
On June 27,1940 it was decided to purchase a new fire truck.  The new 500 gallon pumper in which eighteen men could ride was delivered in September at a cost of $9,827.20.
In 1941 the company started Ambulance service.  The first two women volunteers were Mary McConahy and Jacqueline Weyent.

The lounge room was remodeled in 1951 and made into one room 45 feet wide by 78 feet long.
The Brooklyn first floor was under water in the 1972 flood waters.  The trucks were taken out but much other equipment was destroyed.  It took much hard work from the members to clean up and get in shape again.
After the 1972 flood the adjacent lots became part of the Brooklyn property.
In 1974 a canteen truck was purchased for the purpose of taking hot coffee and soup to the fireman.  It was also used at fairs to sell french fries.
In September 1986 Crider Construction started building a new engine room.  The engine room was completed the following year.
In 1994 the Brooklyn elected its first female president, Arla Johnson remained to serve a second term.  The Brooklyn remains at its present site with many club members enjoying its functions.  Our volunteer Fireman remain dedicated and ready to serve the community.
